Loisaba Lodge

Constructed from stone, local timber and thatch, the lodge is perched high on the edge of the plateau looking south towards Mount Kenya.

Each room has large French windows that open onto a private deck cantilevered off the escarpment. The views are legendary, and a water hole a few hundred feet below draws continuous wildlife.

All the furniture in the lodge is handmade at Loisaba. The lodge has a swimming pool, tennis court, bocce court and croquet lawn.

The spa offers massage and beauty treatment and a romantic open-air bubble bath, all with a tranquil view of the unspoilt Karissia Hills.

Lewa Safari Camp

Lewa Safari Camp has a stunning location within Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, with outstanding game viewing, and spectacular views to Mt. Kenya to the south and arid lowlands to the north.

Each tent has a thatched roof, verandah and full en suite bathroom, very much in the ‘Lewa’ style.

The camp is based within the private 65,000 acre wildlife conservancy of the Lewa Wilderness Trust.

Access
By daily schedule flight from Wilson Airport (Nairobi) to Lewa Downs, by private charter flight direct to the Lewa airstrip, or by road from either Nanyuki (1 hour) or Nairobi (over 3 hours).

Accommodation
The accommodation at Lewa House is in the form of cottage style rooms which are spread out along the hillside, all looking to the expanse of wilderness to the north.

There are 3 of the original (the house was originally a private home) thatched family cottages, each comprising of two homely en-suite rooms and a large shared veranda.

The 4 recently added single room cottages are built with sustainable, ecological principles in mind whilst still being exceptionally comfortable and spacious, with wonderful views across the surrounding landscape.

Power and hot water at Lewa House is provided by the sun and water comes directly from a spring that emerges on Lewa at the base of the Ngare Ndare forest, fed by the snows of Mt Kenya.

The heart of Lewa House is a large elegant building with an open fireplace at one end where guests can relax during the day and mingle with a drink before dinner, and at the other is a large family dining table where the evening meals are served, hosted by Calum and Sophie.

There is a large shaded verandah extending away from the main house with a comfortable seating area from which you can enjoy a cool afternoon drink and soak in the very special atmosphere of Lewa House.

Wildlife
Lewa is home to 350 bird species and 70 mammal species including the Big 5 (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino) as well as many endangered or locally rare species.

Endangered species protected by Lewa include the prehistoric looking black rhino which at approx. 65 individuals on Lewa means the conservancy hosts almost 10% of Kenya’s black rhino population!

Lewa also has the world’s largest single population of the stunning Grevy’s zebra, very different looking from the more common Plains zebra found in most of Kenya – in fact we have both species so you can compare!

II N’gwesi Lodge is an eco lodge situated adjacent to Ngare Ndare Riveron the edge of Mukogodo Hills, right on the Laikipia Plateau.It is set on a 16,500 acres and is run by local people and provides high standards of accommodation.

Lekurukki and Il Ngwesiare group ranches owned by the local Masai community.Thee two ranches play a major role as the migratory corridor between the Laikipia Plateauand Samburu, Shaba and Buffalo Springs National Reserves.

Location & Access
Access to II Ngwesi is by daily schedule flight from Wilson Airport (Nairobi) to Lewa Downs followed by road transfer, by private charter flight direct to the Il N’gwesi airfield, or by road via Ngare Ndare.

Accommodation
The lodge is constructed with materials from the local area and comprises six individual `bandas’ (cottages), which all have adjoining open air showers.

They are thatched, open plan and on high supports to fully ensure both fantastic views and privacy. Two of the bandas have a platform where you can roll out the double bed and spend the night under the stars.

There is also a large sitting area where you can enjoy breakfast in the trees and dinner under the stars. Cool off in the infinity swimming pool which also makes an ideal lunch venue.

A covered viewing hide overlooking a waterhole allows guests to experience the wildlife up close. Water comes from a spring and then is gravity fed to the lodge. Hot water and electricity are powered by solar systems.

Activities
There is a wide range of activities for guests to enjoy during their stay at II Ngwesi Eco Lodge. Guests can choose to view wildlife from the comfort of a vehicle or choose to do so on foot with local guides.

Many guests choose to visit the II Ngwesi Rhino Sanctuary where the first black rhino was translocated to II Ngwesi over thirty years ago.

Other activities include hiking among the nearby hills or along the Ngare Ndare river, taking meals set-up ‘picnic’ style in the bush, bird watching or visiting the Maasi Cultural Manyatta where guests can learn more about the local community and their lifestyle.
