Serengeti Under Canvas consists of two camps with eight tents each. Located within private campsites, your experience is almost entirely in the wild and under the African skies.

Dining
A dedicated sitting and dining tent provides deep sofas from which to contemplate the vastness and peace of the surrounding landscape.

Custom made Indian rugs and polished brass samovars add a touch of elegance and romance. Relax under the dark velvet night sky and sample hearty cuisine served on sparkling crystal and silver that reflects the sparkling light of millions of shining stars.

Wildlife
The Serengeti is home to literally millions of large herbivores, with more than 35 species of plains-dwelling mammals, as well as the accompanying carnivores and prolific birdlife.

The mobile nature of our Serengeti Under Canvas camps means that they are uniquely suited to give guests a close glimpse of the Great Migration, as well as the Serengeti’s numerous other wildlife riches.

Each year, almost two million wildebeest, zebra, eland and Thomson’s gazelle follow the annual rains through the Serengeti and the adjacent Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya in search of prime grazing.

Serena Kirawira Luxury Tented Camp

Luxury Tents
The camp has just 25 widely-spaced luxury tents, raised on timber platforms, each with a glorious view of the plains.

Each tent has a spacious furnished deck leading to a bedroom furnished in antique Edwardian style with steamer-trunks, writing desk, brass lamps, rugs, sepia photographs and four-poster bed with patchwork quilt.

The luxurious ensuite bathroom is fitted with carved mahogany furniture and features a classic black-and-white tiled floor (separate flushed WC, shower, twin marble basins, hot and cold running water). Each tent has its own personal valet.

Bush Dining
We are expert in arranging breakfasts, lunches, dinners and cocktails in the bush.

We have a number of dedicated sites, which are typically presented with tables, safari chairs, ‘bush bar’ and a ‘bush kitchen’, where a broad range of meats, poultry, fish and vegetables are cooked on-site (supplemented by fresh soups, salads and puddings from our hotel kitchens).

In the evenings, ‘sun-downer’ cocktails are traditionally served around a campfire and can be followed by a lamp-lit ‘bush dinner’.

Serengeti Sopa Lodge

Nestled in the acacia woodland on the edge of the escarpment overlooking the plains of the south-western Serengeti National Park, one of the most famous parks in the world, and host to the largest and most spectacular annual migration of the wildebeest.

Located 315 km from Arusha, approximately 7.5 hours drive, and 50 minutes flight with 45 minutes drive from the nearest airstrip.

The lodge is set in the Nyarboro Hills, in the South West overlooking the Serengeti Plains.

Accommodation
69 standard rooms, all with 2 queen size beds, carpeted, and tastefully furnished with local fabrics and pictures. One entering the room is a lounge with a mini bar.

In the front is a verandah with 2 comfortable chairs and coffee table, with glass windows facing the vast Serengeti plains which extend as far as the naked eye can see.1 of these rooms are suitable for the physically handicapped.

The rooms have en-suite bathrooms and hairdryers.

4 very spacious double storey suites, with a lounge area on the ground floor where one can dine, sit out on the balcony facing the Serengeti Plains.

Upstairs is the bedroom with a king size bed on a raised wooden platform, and on one side a bathtub facing the plains. There is an outside open shower as well.

The interior of the suites are painted with the same colours as the main building, terracotta, mustard and blue, which is incorporated in the fabrics.

A verandah extends from the room facing the plains, ideal for relaxing and watching

Dining
An open dining area, spacious, airy and lots of light eminating from the floor to ceiling windows. This allows a magnificent view of the plains as well.

The furniture is wrought iron chairs and wooden tops, all artistically done.

The walls are painted in a mud red colour with window like spaces holding artifacts found in the region. Behind the buffet area is a shimmering blue placement, like a glass mosaic, adding on to the theme.

Bar
Set in a corner with a view of the Serengeti plains, the bar area is strategically placed with an uninterrupted view, and has a terrace for seating with comfortable chair.
