Wildlife
The Serengeti is home to literally millions of large herbivores, with more than 35 species of plains-dwelling mammals, as well as the accompanying carnivores and prolific birdlife.

The mobile nature of our Serengeti Under Canvas camps means that they are uniquely suited to give guests a close glimpse of the Great Migration, as well as the Serengeti’s numerous other wildlife riches.

Each year, almost two million wildebeest, zebra, eland and Thomson’s gazelle follow the annual rains through the Serengeti and the adjacent Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya in search of prime grazing.

Serengeti Sopa Lodge

Nestled in the acacia woodland on the edge of the escarpment overlooking the plains of the south-western Serengeti National Park, one of the most famous parks in the world, and host to the largest and most spectacular annual migration of the wildebeest.

Located 315 km from Arusha, approximately 7.5 hours drive, and 50 minutes flight with 45 minutes drive from the nearest airstrip.

The lodge is set in the Nyarboro Hills, in the South West overlooking the Serengeti Plains.

Accommodation
69 standard rooms, all with 2 queen size beds, carpeted, and tastefully furnished with local fabrics and pictures. One entering the room is a lounge with a mini bar.

In the front is a verandah with 2 comfortable chairs and coffee table, with glass windows facing the vast Serengeti plains which extend as far as the naked eye can see.1 of these rooms are suitable for the physically handicapped.

The rooms have en-suite bathrooms and hairdryers.

4 very spacious double storey suites, with a lounge area on the ground floor where one can dine, sit out on the balcony facing the Serengeti Plains.

Upstairs is the bedroom with a king size bed on a raised wooden platform, and on one side a bathtub facing the plains. There is an outside open shower as well.

The interior of the suites are painted with the same colours as the main building, terracotta, mustard and blue, which is incorporated in the fabrics.

A verandah extends from the room facing the plains, ideal for relaxing and watching

Dining
An open dining area, spacious, airy and lots of light eminating from the floor to ceiling windows. This allows a magnificent view of the plains as well.

The furniture is wrought iron chairs and wooden tops, all artistically done.

The walls are painted in a mud red colour with window like spaces holding artifacts found in the region. Behind the buffet area is a shimmering blue placement, like a glass mosaic, adding on to the theme.

Bar
Set in a corner with a view of the Serengeti plains, the bar area is strategically placed with an uninterrupted view, and has a terrace for seating with comfortable chair.

Attractions
Amboseli National Park is world-famous for its populations of wildlife, particularly large mammals. The swamps are a centre of such wildlife activity as; elephants, hippos, buffaloes and abundant water birds.

The surrounding flat grasslands are home to grazing antelopes. Spotted hyenas are plentiful, as are jackals, warthogs, olive baboons and vervet monkeys.

No longer present in their original numbers, lions can still be found in Amboseli National Park though the famous black-maned lions have long since disappeared, as have the black rhinos that were once so plentiful.

Clients can enjoy great game viewing from their tents which face the animal water pools and all public areas and guest rooms are set towards Mount Kilimanjaro.

Access
The main road into the park from Nairobi is via Namanga (240km) on the Nairobi-Arusha road, through Meshanani gate.

Accommodation
Total Tents: 72 comprising of:-

– 50 Classic Safari Tents each with a double and single bed and large private balcony
– 10 Superior Safari tent with four poster double beds with enlarged bathrooms with lion claw bath tubs
– 12 lodge rooms each with a double and single bed and large private balcony

Facilities
The camp has an open general public area offering bar and dinning services. There will be a nature room with wildlife information and a place for guest lecture. There is a free form swimming pool and a massage center also.

The camp will have 4 wheel drive vehicles with driver guides. A clinic with resident nurse will be available to guest.

Dining
Kilima Safari Camp offers a central dining and bar area.

Buffet style meals are taken in the central open air restaurant which has an adjoining bar.

Activities
Guest lectures – Our local naturalist is available to give guests free lectures and local Masai dancers also entertain clients in the evening

Nature walks – For a small charge, Masai Morans are available to take clients on game walks allowing them to walk freely enjoying the openness and beauty of the park.

Bush Dinners – Only from Kilima Safari Camp can one enjoy the special experience of moonlit “bush dinners”.

This excursion involves a night game drive and a barbecue dinner in the Amboseli plains.
