Joy’s Camp

An elegant oasis in the arid lands of Samburu; Joy’s Camp is built on the site of Joy Adamson’s tented home in Shaba National Reserve. The site was also home to Penny the leopard, the heroine of her last book.

The camp overlooks a large natural spring where elephant and lion jostle for watering rights with herds of buffalo and the rare desert species of Beisa Oryx, reticulated giraffe and Grevy’s zebra.

Location & Access
The camp is 314 kms from Nairobi To get there by air is 45 minutes and by road 5 hours

Tent Suites
Joy’s Camp boasts a chic Boran style, with bright and uniquely modern tents:

:: 10 en-suite white tents
:: 7 doubles and 3 twin tents
:: Each tent consists of a large main bedroom, permanent en-suite bathroom (stone floors, flush loo, hot running water and shower), and large veranda with seating area.
:: All tents can fit two extra beds, to accommodate children under the age of 16yrs only.

Maximum is 5 extra beds in camp at any one time

Wildlife Highlights
Shaba National Reserve itself is rich with extraordinary wildlife; on game drives you have the opportunity of seeing varied wildlife including Grevy’s zebra, the Somali ostrich, generuk, reticulated giraffe, lesser kudu, leopard, plenty of lion and herds of elephant.

Dining
Meals are served in Joy’s Camp’s central dining area, the cuisine is traditional northern Italian food, prepared from the Cheli family cookbook.

If you fancy a different dining experience you could opt for a wonderful breakfast out in the bush.
