Breezes Beach Club
Breezes Beach club occupies a lovely stretch of beach along the Michamvi Peninsula.
Compared with many other Zanzibar lodges that we feature, it is a large (74 rooms) place, but being family-run it is less commercial than some of the international-style resorts that can be found here.
Its size means it has some excellent facilities and a more buzzing atmosphere than you may find at some of the smaller lodges we feature – however the traditional dark Zanzibari furniture used throughout the resort, and high thatched roofs ensure that it doesn’t lack in character.
It’s a good option for families travelling with younger children, as there are plenty of activities and distractions.
These include a floodlit tennis court, movie room, fitness centre, swimming pool, a dive centre and a well-stocked watersports and activities centre where you can hire bikes, snorkels, floating trampolines, volleyballs and kite surfing.
Accommodation
There are three room categories:Deluxe rooms and Suites are in close proximity to the sea.
DELUXE ROOMS: Located on ground floor of bungalows with terrace.
STANDARD ROOMS: Standard rooms are located further away from the sea on the property with a terrace and garden view. Standard and Deluxe are identical in terms of décor and size.
SUITES: Located on upper floor of bungalows with large balcony and sun beds. The Suites have a walk in dressing room and larger bathroom with large terrace, private sunbathing area, and a covered outdoor lounge area.
Amenities & Features
– All rooms are fully air-conditioned with ensuite bathrooms.
– All rooms have a refrigerator and personal electronic safe box and hairdryer in bathroom.
– All rooms have a full third bed functioning as a sofa.
Food & Drink
There is a choice of restaurants on offer at the hotel;
The Tides; offering private beach-front dining for couples.
The Salama Dining Room; serving an extensive buffet breakfast and half-board four course set dinners (choice of two starters, main and dessert).
The Sultan’s Table; spiced Indian and Swahili seafood restaurant overlooking the ocean.
The Breaker’s Grill; lunch restaurant serving fresh grilled fish with an open grill and Tandoori oven.
The hotel also offers a number of bars and coffee/tea lounges. The Chai Room serves coffees, teas and cakes daily.
The daytime Dhow Bar, centred round a traditional African fishing boat, serves cold drinks.
The Safari Bar is an evening spot, often with live jazz music before or after dinner.
The Baraza Bar offers cigars and fine whiskeys for those looking for the true ‘colonial’ experience.
Activities & Facilities
The hotel offers a number of activities and can also help arrange day-trips, tours and excursions such as to the Jozani Forest or Spice Plantations.
The hotel has a good sized swimming pool, tennis courts and a frangipani spa (the massage treatments, though costly, come highly recommended).
The hotel also offers Yoga and meditation sessions and has its very own bazaar for those looking to buy gifts (prices may higher than in Stone Town’s markets).
The Breezes benefits from its own Water Club and dive centre (shared with sister resorts Baraza and The Palms). The Water Club offers low and high-tide activities including snorkelling, fishing trips, beach volleyball, kite-surfing and wind-surfing.
The Water Club will also lend guests reef shoes for exploring the beaches. Though hiring gear and doing excursions can add extra expense to your holiday, most travellers find these trips to be well worth it.
