Oldonyo Lodge

Ol Donyo Lodge is in the heart of the 275,000 acre Mbirikani Group Ranch, located on the slopes of the Chyulu Hills National Park between the Amboseli and Tsavo West National Parks in southeast Kenya.

Its location is unrivalled with full views of Mount Kilimanjaro and in the path of seasonal elephant migrations. It is a lodge rich in history, passion and conservation.

Ol Donyo Lodge’s founder Richard Bonham had often flown over this spectacular landscape but one day in the 1980s, he was moved to land his Cessna on the open plains and meet the local Maasai. That was only the first of many meetings, before the birth of a pioneering community conservation tourism project.

Camp Access
Ol Donyo Lodge is primarily accessed by seat-in plane air transfers or private charters. On arrival at the airfield, the vehicle transfer to the lodge is approximately 30 minutes allowing time for game viewing.

Accommodation
Ol Donyo Lodge consists of ten expansive guest suites in six stand-alone villas. No two spaces are of the same design but all have a dramatic view of the archetypal African savannah and its flat top acacia trees with Mount Kilimanjaro in the background.

The décor is luxurious and opulent, while still retaining the atmosphere and sense of place that is an essential ingredient of an outstanding bush lodge.

Art from around Africa coupled with the photography of Carol Beckwith and Angela Fisher create a commanding space under the high thatch roofs. The design is contemporary and yet traditional.

All suites have a lounge, verandah, indoor and outdoor showers, double washbasins, flush toilet and bath, and “star-bed”. The rooftop “star-bed” is accessed from the verandah via a winding stone staircase. This is a fabulous sleep-out option, with utter privacy and all the amenities of the suite just below.

All but two of the suites have their own private pools. These two stand-alone standard suites are Asali and Mpya.

Wildlife
Strong populations of wildlife find their habitat in and around the ol Donyo Lodge environs. While the “Big Five” are here – rhino, elephant, lion, leopard and buffalo – they are frequently masters of elusivity; however, cheetah, fringe-eared oryx, gerenuk, and giraffe make for easy viewing.

Guests are able to track wildlife by open game drive vehicles, by foot, or horseback. Late afternoon and early evening drives are featured for those interested in spotting the more elusive nocturnal species.

Shimba Hills Lodge

This award-winning tree lodge was built in 1986 and is our youngest property.

It is located in Shimba National Reserve, Kenya’s last remaining habitat of the rare Sable Antelope.

The lodge stays refreshingly cool in its forest setting despite being only 45 minutes drive from the hot, humid coastal city of Mombasa (and 30 minutes from the South coast resorts of Diani).

Access
The Lodge is set 45 minutes from the Indian Ocean and about 50 km from Mombasa in the heart of an ancient tropical rain forest inside the Reserve.

Mbweha Safari Camp

Tucked away in the spectacular vastness of The Great Rift Valley on a private 6400 acre Congreve Conservancy, Mbweha Camp is nestled up against the southern border of Lake Nakuru National Park.

10 cottages built of lava stone and thatched makuti roof add glamour and style to its contemporary African ambience.

Every cottage is surrounded by Candelabra Euphobia, yellow barked Acacia and other indigenous trees that provide a relaxed atmosphere as you listen to the African night sounds of a lion roar or the laughter of the hyena in the distance.

Flamingo Hill Camp

The lodge is named after Aruba dam, an oasis which forms an irresistable attraction to wildlife. this brand new lodge sits amongst landscaped gardens close to the dam.

It has a swimming pool, fine restaurant, bar, wouvenir shop, viewing decks and conferencing and business centre facilities.

The property offers 40 deluxe rooms, each with a terrace to enjoy the scenery, whilst some villas have interconnecting rooms and also one or two have full disabled facilities.

There is also some tented accommodation for who want to experience a night under canvas – but there is a slight premium for the tents, and unlike the rooms, an extra bed for a child or 3rd adult cannot be added.

Lake Nakuru Lodge

Situated in the South East Ecological niche of the park is Lake Nakuru Lodge, an oasis of comfort and excellent service, with commanding views of the lesser flamingo dotted with the Greater Flamingo for which Lake Nakuru is justly famous.

Galdessa Camp

This small eco-tourism camp is set in the middle of Tsavo East National Park, with high standards of accommodation and service.

From day and night game drives in the open vehicles to walking safaris along the Galana River in Tsavo East National Park and wild luxurious meals in the bush, the experienced and enthusiastic staff at Galdessa knows how to make each day unique and exciting.

The camp has only eight luxury tented accommodation units (semi-tented thatched bungalows called bandas) spread over 9.5 acres for maximum privacy.

Satao Camps has 20 tents all en-suite with a total of forty beds built in a semi circle ensuring all get a front row view of the watering hole. Each tent is constructed of eco friendly materials; sisal and boriti poles topped with a makuti roof. There is a tent with wheel chair access for the physically challenged.

The shower however is in the true African style, whereby the camp staff brings hot water in the evening. Each spacious tent has a private bathroom with running water. The bathrooms are very spacious, slate floors with stunning wooden framework, the wash basins sunken into the structure, all fitted with flushing toilet.
